Day Trips for the Long Weekend

April 17, 2014

A day trip is a great idea for the long weekend and here are some of our favourites from Melbourne.

Dandenong Ranges and Philip Island

Steam trains, devonshire tea and penguins, this one is great for families and first time visitors to Melbourne.

Mornington Peninsula

Tough to beat for variety and proximity to Melbourne. Great fresh produce, beautiful wineries and loads of bayside activities like kayaking or stand-up paddling. Don’t miss the hot springs.

Daylesford and the Gold Country

Great for history buffs, kids and lovers of laidback country charm. Visit the mock Gold Rush town of Sovereign Hill then dine in lovely Daylesford. Keep some time for antiques shopping and art galleries, it’s a favourite spot for tree-changers.

The Yarra Valley

Known for its rolling hills, fresh produce and excellent wines. For a real treat, watch the sun rise from a hot air balloon and land to a champagne breakfast.

A little further afield lay Beechworth & Milawa, Wilsons Promontory and the Great Ocean Road. These are better suited to longer trips unless you are really organised. If you’re short on time or you want the benefit of expert local knowledge, get in touch with us. Localing can organise trips anywhere in Victoria, for a half day or for three days – you decide.
