Sharon in front of Moon Dog Craft Brewery, Abbotsford.
Meet Sharon, a teacher-turned-guide who loves using her in-depth knowledge of Melbourne and passion for storytelling, to give her guests the best Localing experience. Her Jewish heritage makes her the perfect guide for those looking to learn more about the incredible history and culture that is prominent in Melbourne’s inner suburbs.
Her expertise extends into other areas and cultures as well, noting that Fitzroy and Brunswick areas are a fan-favourite. “There’s so much amazing street art, and I really like to see the reactions on guests faces when they see how much is on offer”. In fact, Sharon thinks that our laneways and alleyways are Melbourne’s best kept secret. “I say secret, because often tourists will go to the major Hosier Lane and think that’s it for laneway street art, but we have so many of them!”
Calling Melbourne a “very eclectic eating centre”, her hot tip is to try the modern-asian gem ‘Chin Chin’ located on Flinders Lane, but she says timing is everything. “It can be quite hard to get into, but if you go for a late lunch or an early dinner you’re guaranteed to get a table”.
Having travelled and lived in cities all over the world, Sharon’s happy to call Melbourne home. “It’s not for nothing that we’ve won the world’s most liveable city seven years in a row! Since being a tour guide, my mind has been opened to the many beauties and secrets Melbourne has - it’s just such a unique city, and it’s my pleasure to show guests all of these incredible things.
“You know, they say that if you can make your hobby you’re business you’ll never work a day in your life, and that’s how I feel about working here”.
